Prime Minister to move :

THAT, an earthquake with the magnitude of 9.0 Richter scale and tsunami had inflicted the Honshu coast, Japan at 1.46pm Malaysian time on Friday, 11 March 2011, approximately 400km Northeast from Tokyo and at present aftershock still occurs;

THAT, an earthquake and tsunami had resulted in huge loss of life and massive destruction to properties and damage to infrastructures particularly in the Northeast of Japan which had been referred to by H.E. Prime Minister of Japan Naoto Kan as the “worst calamity since the Second World War” and the rescue efforts are still ongoing;

THAT, the Government and the people of Malaysia extend our sympathies and deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Japan as well as to all victims of the calamity including their families and friends;

THAT, the international community, has risen to offer assistance to the Government and people of Japan to aid in the ongoing rescue efforts;

THAT, the people of Malaysia share the grief and pain suffered by the victims of this disaster and calamities;

THAT, due the existing close relations between Malaysia and Japan, the people of Malaysia extend our offer of humanitarian assistance to lighten the burden of the victims;

THAT, the Government and people of Malaysia value highly the appreciation of the Japanese Government relating to the proposed humanitarian assistance by Malaysia; and

THAT, the people of Malaysia view Japan as a country that has provided abundance of assistance to Malaysia in achieving development and it is appropriate for the people of this country to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Japan.

THUS THIS HOUSE resolves to make the following resolutions:

(1) Expresses its condolence and deepest sympathies to the Government of Japan and all victims of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on 11 March 2011;

(2) Records its appreciation to the Government and the people of Japan for all assistance rendered to the people of Malaysia, particularly the Malaysian students, affected by the disaster;

(3) Calls upon the people of Malaysia to render material, emotional and moral support and assistance to the victims of disaster calamity; and

(4) Appeals to the international community to continue extending humanitarian assistance to the people of Japan.
